Easter egg hunts don’t just happen over night as most people would believe, and a lot of people believe that because boiling an egg just doesn’t take that long. In truth the time honored tradition of boiling and then decorating Easter eggs has pretty much been replaced because of the vast variety of pre-decorated and pre-filled eggs that are out in masses in stores and online.

Despite all this convenience Easter egg hunts are hard to plan because while there are all kinds of store packed Easter gifts for adults the children’s editions are rather limited and have mostly candy and/ or chocolate.

While candy and chocolate are a somewhat important part of Easter, there’s still the problem of how much candy and chocolate can one possibly fit in the Easter eggs while guaranteeing that the kids don’t over indulge on chocolate. A lot of people come up with the idea of putting things like school supplies in Easter baskets for kids or filling them with reward notes. For those of you who don’t know, reward notes are when you make a coupon to do a chore for your kid.

Although the idea is original, there’s the question of how popular will it be over chocolate and candy? The chances that the kids hold the Easter bunny hostage and ask for the real chocolate Easter eggs are higher. Apart from the ever difficult decision of what to put in Easter eggs there is the question of where to hide the Easter eggs. Although the idea of kids having fun looking for Easter eggs to fill their Easter baskets sounds good on paper, there is the question that every neighborhood must answer, ‘Whose backyard will the kids ransack while they hunt for Easter eggs?’

The easy way to select a backyard would be draw straws but there is always the option of using the local park or sometimes the local church can provide a place to host the East egg hunt. These places are better because there’re more places to hide the eggs and much more area for the kids to run around and work off some of the sugar hyped energy. The parents can easily come together to supervise the event. Then there’s the whole ‘what do I put inside my ten year old’s Easter basket?’ Only you know how hard it is to excite your kids about Easter and get them to go the Easter hunt as they grow older and the Easter bunny losses credibility so it’s important that whatever you put inside the eggs it’s worth their search.

This is actually the real challenge because on the one hand you want to keep their sugar level to a point where they aren’t bouncing off the walls while knowing that chocolate is the only thing that will make them happy. An easy way to do this is to hide ’some’ chocolate in all the Easter eggs and fill the rest with small things that kids like in general like little toys. At the end of the Easter hunt, give them a special treat at Easter lunch like a fruit bouquet that they can dig into.

Fruit bouquets come with the fruit dipped in chocolate so that the chocolate side is covered and you can rest assured that your carefully looked after backyard is intact and the kids are eating healthy this Easter.

I’m the happy mother of three kids aged 8 years, 5 years and 18 months and as my kids are growing I’m facing new challenges in parenting everyday. I know I only get though the toughest mom challenges because of the great support group I have, my family and my friends and my wonderful neighborhood community of super moms. I’m here to share with you how I get through every challenge in my life as i continue to try and provide the best for my children.

Treasure hunts are a blast, we all know that, right? They’re a great way to have fun with our kids. But how about getting the neighbors involved and helping you and your children develop new relationships and stronger ties in the community? Let’s talk a little about ways to do this through treasure hunts

Pass out a few fliers in your neighborhood. Even if you know your neighbors well enough, it helps to have something on paper that they can look at; easier to remember that way. Going door-to-door is probably the best route. Talk to them and see if they want to get involved with some of the planning. From my experience, I’ve always been surprised to find that many neighbors actually DO want to get involved in community activities; they just need someone to lead the way, it seems. You may find a few really creative friends on your street that will astonish you.

So the fliers are out and you have parents and neighbors involved. Invite them over to your house on a nice summer night and just hang out with a piece of paper, soda, wine, and beer. Just have a good time with them and watch the ideas flow. Some of them probably played games like this when they were kids as well, so thinking of ideas may come naturally to them. Try to get everyone involved doing at least SOMEthing, if it’s clear that you are to be the leader of the endeavor.

If it works and the parents and kids have fun, do it again. Use the entire neighborhood and make it seem like a sprawling landscape of mystery for your children. They’ll love it!

Still dishing out the same old party themes for your kids? How about the “tween” in the family? For the next birthday, make the party most memorable for your 12-year-old. These party ideas will set you apart as the coolest mom and dad in the block.

Party Uppers

Children ages 9 to 12 are at an awkward age, but give them a fun party and they’ll lap it up. Since they are not official teenagers and no longer the little ones, giving them a party they can enjoy can tax your imagination and stamina. These tween party ideas will give your tween star status in the neighborhood.

Let the tween in you help you along these party ideas. If you’ve decided to host a Safari Sleepover, schedule it on a Friday night. The timing is right. The kids can catch some extra zzzs after a night of fun. But be sure to announce that the pick-up time for the kids is at 10 the following day.

An outdoor sleepover is a good idea, but for the kids’ safety, have the tents installed indoors. Put up a hotdog and harshmallow grill, but don’t forget to add a salad and animal-shaped sandwiches. Fill GI canteens with juice and distribute them among the guests. Let them whoop it up in the lawn – dancing and organized games – until you announce that it’s bedtime. Girls should be separated from boys if it’s a mixed party.

A tween party idea young girls enjoy is the “pajama dress-up” party. The girls can bring along their blings. Let them have a go at putting up makeup and do other girly things they all want to do – fix their hair, paint their nail with fun colors, and do a pajama fashion show. Of course, expect the girls to stay up late watching videos, swapping ghost stories, and doing just about anything. Girls are wont to do that when they are together.

If your tween loves to rock, she or he will be inviting like-minded friends. Host a rock party they won’t forget. A ’70s disco-themed party is a novel experience for the young ones. Clear the living room, install a disco globe, and get dance music they’ll rock to. To make it more authentic, hire a neighborhood DJ who can do the spinning. Be sure to keep a bottomless supply of the kids’ favorite eats, drinks, and munchies.

A beach party theme is also a welcome idea, whether you have a pool or not. Decorate the party venue with shell wired garlands, paper balls, mock palm trees, and surfboards. Prepare more than a dozen rubber slippers. Use colorful fish platters to serve your beach fare. Ask the guests to come in their favorite beach bum attire. If you have a pool, make sure that a lifeguard is around to watch over the kids.

Before the Party

Schedule the party on a weekend before the actual birthday. Get invitations to go with the party theme. A pillow invitation for a sleep over, a papier mache conch shell for the beach party, and a map invitation for the safari or treasure hunt party. Shop for party favors and ask your tween for the type of music he or she wants for the party. To make your shopping a convenient jaunt, have your money organized in one of those money clip wallets, and bring along the list of things you must buy for the party.

Call up the parents and ask for any restrictions on movies to watch and any food allergies to avoid potential problems. To help you out, ask the neighbors’ tweens to come over. They’ll enjoy the party too. If you have smaller kids, let them have a guest or two so they won’t feel left out of the fun.

Make your party planning more convenient by keeping cash in a magnetic money clip and storing your party favor suppliers’ contact cards in personalized business card holders. Don’t forget to give away unique gift baskets as tokens. Visit ExecutiveGiftShoppe.com today.

In many communities, Halloween is not only for children’s trick-or-treating, or adults having parties, it is also a time when youth tear their neighborhoods apart and wreak general havoc, and refer to it as “fun.” If you have teenagers– or if you happen to be one– there are ways in which youth who are too old for door-to-door candy-seeking can have a good time on this holiday without being destructive, and without putting themselves or others in danger with unsafe group driving or roaming around in a dark neighborhood.

The standard alcohol-free Halloween party, with reliable supervision and a common sense time limit, is an answer. The very thought of gathering a dozen or more teens in one home may sound like a nightmare to the parents and boring to the youth; but with careful planning, it need not reach either group’s worries! A good time can be had by the teenagers; and it is entirely possible that the chaperones in charge will find themselves enjoying the festivities also.

When planning a youth-oriented Halloween party, it is a good idea to solicit some input from the teens themselves. They are quite likely to have very clear ideas about what types of music and other entertainment is the most suitable; and, in the absence of anything that is truly objectionable, they will appreciate having the leeway to make these types of decisions.

Likewise, the Halloween party will be more of a “hit” for the teens if they can select the types of refreshments that they prefer. The best idea is to have enough variety so that there is something which all of the guests will enjoy.

When you are planning this type of party, it is essential to set some basic rules beforehand, and for all of the guests to be aware of them. While most parents would agree that it is only common sense that no alcohol or drugs be allowed, it is best to make this policy clear to the teens, and also let the other parents know about it.

Planning a party that will proceed and end smoothly also means setting a time limit. It is a good idea to know in advance that all of the guests will have a way to get home, whether that means being picked up by their parents or being dropped off at home by you or someone else.

To make the Halloween party even more memorable, you can prepare gift baskets in advance, so that each guest will have something to take home. Most teenagers are as fond of candy and other such treats as young children are, and giving them well-stocked goodie baskets will lead them to not need to pester their younger siblings for Halloween candy afterward.

Hosting a Halloween party for teens does not have to be a nightmare for the parent, nor a dull evening for the youth; all it takes is some good planning and cooperation between both generations for everyone to have an enjoyable Halloween night.

These Halloween safety tips were brought to you by One Source Gift Baskets [http://www.onesourcegiftbaskets.com]. Gift baskets [http://www.onesourcegiftbaskets.com] are a safe alternative to give someone for Halloween instead of candy.

What’s not to love about water parks? The rides, the fun, the food, the sun, the expense… Okay, so maybe there are a couple of things not to love about water parks, like the outlandish expense to get in and the fact that a plain hot dog and a small drink cost $6.95 apiece.

Why not try your hand at bringing the entertainment to your own backyard this summer? Granted, you may not be able to get a wave pool going through your yard, but with a little creativity you can have a backyard party that’s both exciting and memorable, and considerably easier on your wallet.

Planning an water park party

Party preparation should start at least a month in advance, if not more so. This is so you have plenty of time to shop for supplies, both in-store and online, and allows for delivery time for any items that you have to order. It also gives you time to get a guest list together and get them to RSVP.

For activities, people can get creative enough with a water hose and a sprinkler. Add a couple of wading pools, a Slip-n-Slide, and a cache of water balloons and water guns, and you’ve got a miniature water park in your own yard. Kids can run rampant, splash around, and have water fights without having to spend most of their time waiting in line for rides or getting yelled at to slow down.

Also, if you’re really concerned about recreating the atmosphere, popcorn and cotton candy machines can add flair to your backyard party. Not only do they make fresh water park food right there in your own home, but popcorn and cotton candy machines can be reused for event after event, whether it’s a neighborhood block party, family reunion, church gathering or birthday party.

Make memories that will last a lifetime

It may seem like a daunting task, but it’s certainly not impossible. A backyard water park party can provide fun for the whole family and neighborhood, if just for the day. Besides, how many kids will be able to say that their parents created a backyard water park?

During Sundays, back when you were still a kid and you lived with your parents, you always went to an outdoor party. The party was sometimes held at your own yard. Sometimes, it was held at some of the houses in your neighborhood. When you were old enough, that was when you learned that the people in your neighborhood took turns hosting the outdoor parties. That was a way of getting to know each other and just relaxing in the outdoors before another hectic week started.

Now that you are already old and that you already have your own home, you miss those kinds of parties. The homes in your neighborhood do not care much though about the people around them and so they pretty much keep to themselves. You and your friends have some get togethers at times but they are just not like what you had back in the old days when people would gather just when the sun was about to set and a barbecue grill was smoking hot with all the things being cooked there.

So now you are planning on having one and inviting your friends. It was your way or reliving those memories and just being happy with the company of friends. It is an outdoor party – your outdoor party – and you certainly want it not to be fabulous but a success. A successful party does not mean that it has to be great – it just means that everybody attending has to have a good time.

It is pretty simple. Just invite the people you want to be there and make sure that they come. And when you prepare your yard, there is not much to do. Just set out chairs and tables and the barbecue grill. Prepare the food that you have to cook and keep the drinks chilled so that when the party starts, all you need to do is cook the food and just let the guests get the drinks that they want to have.

The only problem you have is the light and you do not have any kind of outdoor lighting available. Well, all you need to do is get some organic candles. One example is soy candles and you can put them in colorful holders. You can use bamboo and paint them with lovely colors. Light them up when the sun has gone down. Relax. It is going to be a success.

The days of simplistic kids birthday parties have long since passed and been replaced by more sophisticated ideas and fanfare. Many moons ago, when I was a child, kid’s birthday parties were more or less only celebrated on the milestone birthdays: the first, fifth and tenth and in most instances, did not break the bank, as they sometimes do today. A little cupcake offering, on the other less impressive birthdays, was usually the offering of choice to the child’s classmates; while a small homemade cake was offered at home with the family. Traditionally back in the day, a girl’s sixteenth birthday was a time for a more grown up party and a bigger celebration.

Nowadays, children have a party pretty much every year and the parties become a little more elaborate as they go along; or at the very least, keep up with the reputation of the party the year before. It’s hard to believe that children’s parties have reputations, but kids do talk and believe it or not, so do their parents. A simplistic party just doesn’t cut it anymore with the younger crowd or with their parents for that matter. Lunchroom talk determines if the party was a hit or a miss. Like it or not, it’s a very competitive world we live in.

One can only speculate when the changeover took place, probably sometime around the time when baby dolls began to talk, walk, grow hair and go potty and electric speed racers and transformers (that can change from one form to another) came on to the scene. The more elaborate the toys it seems, the more elaborate the celebrations. Face it folks, it’s a remarkable time we live in; we are the computer age generation after all. Heck, we don’t even have to sing Happy Birthday if we don’t care to, we can buy a birthday card or ballooon that can do it for us.

Theme parties are big and can be customized from start to finish. Customized plates, cups, napkins and wall decorations in various party themes can easily be found in neighborhood party stores or right at your fingertips on the World Wide Web.

In as much as things change, some things remain the same and little girls still love princess parties and little boys still love superhero parties. Customized parties from start to finish especially in princess themes are a real hit with little girls and their little friends. In more affluent neighborhoods, some children are asked to dress in princess costumes and the once dime store loot bags are often replaced with higher priced gifts for young party guests. In fact, a dime store loot bag would probably be frowned upon in the upscale neighborhoods and some less affluent ones too.

Children’s parties change from decade to decade, but the one thing that remains constant is parties are always great fun when you celebrate with the people you love. So whether you go the traditional route and have something simple or go all out and have an extravagant affair, you are sure to have a great time!

Sometimes the most difficult adult birthdays parties to plan and execute are block parties, but when several new families have moved into the area, it is a great way, not only to welcome the new additions to the neighborhood, it is a good way for everyone to get to know each other. Neighbors who know each other tend to be happier and look out for one another, and that is always a good thing.

It is very important for everyone in the neighborhood to be invited, if you decide to have a block party. Nobody should be left out. If you have an elderly person in the neighborhood, make arrangements for someone to pick them up, so they don’t feel left out. If you have a true shut-in on your block, it is always nice to let them know ahead of time about the party, and let them know that, though they cannot attend in person, they are going to be included. Be sure and take them a plate of food, a party favor, and take the newest members on the block, and introduce them.

Party Activities for Adult Block Parties

Especially if you are having a block party for someone who is new to the area, it is nice to give them gifts, but not always necessary. You can always give them names and addresses of hairdressers, cleaners, good restaurants, dentists, physicians, etc. Free movie rentals, names of teens who mow lawns or baby-sit (perhaps even let the neighborhood kids be there for the first hour of the party, so they can put names and faces together, as well as putting the correct child with the correct parents) names of mechanics, and other places you know they will need to find eventually are often the most needed gift you can give to a neighborhood newcomer.

A great introductory game is to send a questionnaire with the invitation. Ask simple questions such as “Where do you work?” “What kind of car do you drive?” “What are your children’s names?” and “Do you have any pets, and if so, what are their names?” Then, when the line forms for the Barbeque, the “Ticket” to the food is the questionnaire, which is dropped into a box. After dinner, the questionnaires are pulled out, and the new neighbors attempt to match the questionnaire with the correct neighbor. It is a good way to get to know each other. Be sure to include some fun questions like, “What is your favorite sport?” and “What is a unique talent you possess?”

Never forget the power of music in a social gathering. You could have a dance, where each person dances with a new partner when the song changes. What better way to get to know your new neighbors, and let them get to know you, than to have a “get acquainted” adult block party to rock the block!

Mrs. Party… Gail Leino is the internet’s leading authority on selecting the best possible party supplies (http://partysupplieshut.com), using proper etiquette, and living a healthy life while also teaching organizational skills and fun facts.

When my youngest was about eight months old, I took my two girls swimming. All was fine until Mr. Obnoxious Six-Year-Old entered the scene. He ran around the pool, leaving toddlers spluttering in his wake, so he could splash babies in the face. His mother stood at the edge of the pool, saying, “Bobby, honey, you don’t want to do that.” (That’s probably the stupidest thing you could say to a kid. Of course he wants to do it. Otherwise why would he?). Meanwhile, my three-and-a-half-year-old asked me, “why doesn’t she just lift him out of the pool? She’s bigger than he is.” Yes, she was. But she wouldn’t always be. And what would happen then? Tick. Tick. Tick.

Our Child Centred Approach Often Leads to Unruly Kids

Other People’s Kids are the bane of many a parent’s existence. They’re rude, they corrupt your kids, and they phone or ICQ your child at all hours of the day and night. If everyone would just parent the way you do, you feel, many of your problems would disappear.

There’s more than a little truth to this. Our new parenting styles tend to be child-centred. While this may foster creativity, it also means that many kids are raised without a sense of right and wrong. Right is what’s fun, and my fun is all that matters, even if it makes your kid cry.

Neighbors Don’t Interfere Anymore

My father-in-law vividly remembers being punished by neighbors when he did things wrong, something which much have happened frequently given his numerous recollections of these events. It wasn’t too long ago that there was a shared sense of what was right and what was wrong, and other adults were quick to intervene to enforce it.

Those days are gone. First, we’ve lost our belief in absolutes. How can we enforce rules on other people’s kids if their parents may not agree? We’ve also lost the sense of absolute adult authority, because too many disgusting adults have horribly abused the authority we all used to share. As a consequence, we now teach our kids not to obey adults automatically. It was necessary to protect kids, but it results in people now parenting by themselves, if they parent at all.

Take Back the Playground

Maybe we should stop looking away and start playing Take Back the Playground. We may not all agree on how to parent, but most of us agree about sharing, bullying and protecting our own kids. Why not treat other people’s children politely, but firmly, like our own? If a child is hogging the swing, hitting kids on the slide, or even instant messaging nasty gossip, call them on it, even if the parents are standing nearby and ignoring it. Talk to the principal or to the teacher, but let’s not ignore it.

It’s amazing how an adult warning a child can change the dynamics of the playground. If one child is being abusive to others, and an adult steps in, the other children now feel empowered to demand respect, too. They see that the bully is not at the top of the food chain; the adult is. And now the bully doesn’t seem so powerful after all.

Enforcing appropriate behaviour seems odd in this culture, but maybe our lack of enforcement is the reason why our culture is becoming so odd. One day these kids will grow up, and be our teachers, our doctors, our salespeople, our accountants. We’d better hope they learn not to hit, cheat and steal first. Decency, after all, is something that should never have gone out of style in the first place.

A kids party is a great idea. And you don’t need to wait for a birthday to make it happen. Kids love parties. Especially today’s kids who don’t grow up in large families. There social connections are precious to them.

Kids today are so inundated with modern pop culture and so busy with school work, home work, and commuting that they have very little awareness of the past when life was simpler and generally nicer. I think if you asked kids if they would like to escape the madness of our modern life a while, they would smile and say yes. You could take them camping or to the beach or even to a waterpark and they’d like all those activities. Why? Because it’s like a party to them.

When I was a kid we had these neighbourhood parties and often they were birthday parties, but times were different back then. Parents today are more creative and open minded about having parties just for the sake of giving their kids and friends a chance to get together and have fun. How about a pool party? If you don’t have a pool, it’s almost certain someone with kids in your neighbourhood does. Perhaps you could so bold as to ask them if they’d mind having a party in their backyard. There’s usually pony rides near most towns and hobby farms are becoming more popular for tots and toddlers.

Parties can be made extra special by incorporating a fun activity in them. It can be fun competitions like an obstacle course, treasure finding, or a game on the lawn. Call up someone from the local classic car club and ask them if they’d like to take the kids for a short drive. Vintage car club members really like to show off their cars and their cars are very different from today’s automobiles. Take them on a short trip to a local tourist venue perhaps a hobby farm with lots of animals to pet and feed.

Themes for Kids Parties

A good kids party can also have a theme. The theme not only gets the kids imagination in play, but more importantly it gets the parents involved. Since kids have little exposure to the past, you may want to consider vintage or retro American themes. The imaginative themes of vintage Americana takes you back to a friendlier and more wholesome era. It’s something that can make a great impression on young minds and instill them with positive values and social expectations.

When you think of sending out invitations to parties, it is only the toddler or youngster that is in mind, but the parent is more likely to see the invitation and read it. By stirring up the parent’s imagination, you’re more likely to inspire them to agree to take time to bring their kids to the party. As anyone knows who has sent out party invitations, not everyone shows up. A good invitation makes an event special and gets a better response.

If you’re choosing party invitations, there are many different types available at your local card shop or retail shopping store. All too often however, the card designs and themes are too familiar. Any card buyer knows how tough it is to find something unique and parties are supposed to be special. Would you give a friend or loved one an old birthday card that’s been available for years. It is embarrassing to give a card that the person has received many times already. Rather than being pleased, they give a sour response.

So how do you find something unique that stimulates kids imagination and makes the party a special event. Themed party invitations will suit perfectly. Depending on whether it is a boys or girls party, you can find cards on themes ranging from cowboys and cowgirls to ballerinas, zoo animals, farm animals, trains, robots, fairies, and ballerinas. You may even find some wall art on similar themes.

If it’s a cowboy or cowgirl themed party, you might find some cheap cowboy hats and a rope to use for lassoing. If you’re planning to take the kids for a pony ride, this couldn’t be more perfect.

Give your kids a special birthday party or a party just for the sake of having a get together. It’s a great way for you to meet new friends as well since their parents will be dropping them off. Check out vintage invitations cards and make it a memorable party for the kids.
